Dear Friends of Melissa’s Place, As you know Melissa’s Place was inspired by the death of my daughter and her husband in July, 2004. I think about them often but especially so during this time of the year. Usually our emails are about the orphanage and the girls but as this was the week of their deaths, I thought you might like to hear of one story about Melissa. When Melissa was about 10 years old, she asked me to show her some chords on the guitar. I never heard her practice so I just assumed she had lost interest. When she was 16, she got her a job in a coffee house and she asked me to come by to see her at work. I walked in, sat down, and she served my coffee. Then she made her way to a small stage, picked up her guitar and played and sang a song she had written. I had no idea that she played and sang. To say the least, I was more than surprised and I was one proud dad. It’s one of many powerful memories I have of Melissa. I hope you and your family had a wonderful July 4th.
