Melissa’s Place is committed to igniting hope to a brighter future for orphaned children, with a special emphasis on empowering girls in the peaceful expanse of Beaumont, near Haiti's southwestern mountainous coffee-growing region.

 

By nurturing their talents, fostering self-reliance, our desire is to positively shape young lives with enduring impact.

Meet the Girls of Melissa's Place

Monica Sainte Pierre

11 years old 

5th year of school

​ 

Monica would like to be a doctor when she grows up.  She wants to help people feel better, and to help them when they are hurt.  She also wants to learn about cosmetology because she likes playing with hair and helping the other girls look pretty.

 

Her mother died when she was 6, and her father was unable to provide for both she and her sister.  There were many days when she did not have anything to eat.  She likes living at the orphanage and having food to eat every day and playing hide and seek with her friends.

1st Year of School  

 

Monise wants to go to school to be a lawyer.  She likes to read a lot and is currently learning how to sew.

 

She likes being at the orphanage and having so many girls to play with and to do fun things with. Her mother was died in Le Cay, Haiti during the earthquake that hit in 2021.  She doesn’t know who her father is, and her grandmother is too poor to be able to provide for her. 

Claudine Pierre

6th year of school 

 

Claudine wants to be a doctor.  She likes learning about science and wants to work in a big hospital someday.  At the orphanage, she likes working in the garden and wants to learn more about making fruits and how vegetables grow.

 

Her mother was severely disabled after she was born and her father is unknown.  She is happy to live at the orphanage and have so many nice “sisters”.  She also enjoys going to school, plays soccer, solves riddles, and attends church every week.

Rose Berline Florent

3rd year of school

 

Rose wants to be a teacher when she grows up.  She likes going to school and learning new things.  She especially likes to read books.  She also wants to learn more about cosmetology.

 

Although her mother is alive, she was very abusive to Rose and neighbors feared for her life when she was brought to the orphanage.

 

At the orphanage she loves to sew and likes to make pretty dresses and wants to learn to make their school uniforms.

Makencia Pierre

2nd year of school 

 

Makencia wants to go to training for horticulture.  She loves working in the garden at the orphanage and learning about the different kinds of plants and trees.  She also enjoys styling hair and wants to learn how to put on make-up.

 

Makencia’s mom is unable to care for her, and her father passed away when she was 3 years old.

 

She is happy and feels at home at the orphanage, and she enjoys running  and playing with dolls.

Nehemie Santibert

1st year of school

 

Nehemie wants to be a nurse when she finishes her secondary schooling.  She likes to help people and wants to work in a hospital or clinic.  

 

Her mom lives close to the orphanage and comes by to see her often.  She has no father and her mom gave her up to the orphanage because she could not afford to care for her or send her to school. 

 

At Melissa’s Place she enjoys growing vegetables and working in the garden.

Landrie Cadet

Landrie wants to be trained in horticulture.  She loves working in the garden and watching the food grow.  She also wants to learn how to sew and is excited to be learning more about this soon from the sewing teacher.

 

Both of her parents died, and she was being cared for by a relatives who had 6 children.  Unfortunately, they could no longer afford to provide for all these children, and Landrie was brought to the orphanage. 

 

She says at the orphanage she is never hungry now, gets to go to school, has a soft bed to sleep in, all which makes her very happy.

Jesula Pierre

2nd year of school 

 

Jesula likes working in the garden and cooking.  She wants to learn more about horticulture and farming.  

 

Her father passed away and her mother is unable to provide basic care for her.

 

When she grows up she wants to have her own garden and sell vegetables, fruits, and coffee at the market.  She enjoys the other girls and likes to play hide and seek with them.
